Next up in our Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine preview is districts 9 and 11 1A division 1. Lets start with Colmseneil out of 11-1A. The bulldogs are coming off a 5 and 6 season where they were bi-district finalist. 2013 looks promising as Head Coach fFancy Johnson, which may be the best name in east Texas returns 7 starters on both offense and defense. Quarterback Matt Bailey is the district's returning stat leader after throwing for over 1,300 yards and 20 touchdowns a season ago. The Bulldogs will have a trio of weapons on offense, with Bailey, tight end Dylan Falcon and running back Cody Walsh who had over 1,300 yards and 5 td's last year. The magazine projects Colmseneil to finish in third place in district 11-1A, which would be good enough for a spot in the post season.
Now lets go to 9-1A and check out the magazine's analysis of Timpson. The Bears went 9 and 2 last year and lost in the first round of the playoffs. The biggest question mark facing Timpson in 2013 is who will play quarterback? They do return 8 starters on offense, but only 5 on defense. If the Bears want to reach the 9 win mark again, then the districts preseason offensive MVP, running back Colton McSwain will have to live up to the hype. McSwain who rushed for 700 yards and 8 touchdowns a year ago will look to carry the load offensively. Despite losing a lot of starters to graduation, the magazine predicts Timpson to reload and finish second in the district standings.
