NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A 30-year-old Nacogdoches man accepted a plea bargain deal for 12 months in the county jail Friday for an assault that injured a 9-year-old girl in July 2012.
Jerry Duane Merchant appeared in Ed Klein's 420 Judicial District Court in Nacogdoches Friday morning for a plea bargain hearing for a felony charge of injury to a child. As part of the plea bargain, the charge was downgraded to assault-family violence, which is a Class A misdemeanor.
According to the report, Nacogdoches Police officers responded to a disturbance call late in the evening of July 4, 2012. When they arrived on scene at a residence in the 800 block of Oakhill Plaza Drive, the caller told the officers that Merchant had assaulted a 9-year-old girl.
Merchant was arrested at the scene and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
