Two-alarm apartment fire displaces 20 people in Inglewood

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A massive fire in Inglewood injured two people and displaced 20 people early Thursday morning, destroying seven apartments.

The fire occurred around 4:15 a.m. at the Cobblestone Corners apartments on Ben Allen Road near Ellington Parkway.

Residents said they heard a fire alarm go off and started waking people up.

"I just heard banging on the door, jumped up and my wife looked out the window and said it was a fire," said resident Ronald Davis.

One person fell, and flames burned another.

"The one that got burnt, she was the one that was going around beating on the doors to get everybody out," said resident Robin Keesee.

"We didn't have much time to get out, so we had to grab what we could and run out the door," said resident Brenda Davis. "I didn't even have time to get my shoes on."

The Red Cross assisted those who were displaced with food and clothing. Those who were displaced included 16 adults and four children.

"It was unbelievable. I've never seen anything like it. It was something like off of a movie," said resident Jamie Miller.

Flames could be seen shooting 20 feet high, which took crews about two hours to extinguish.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to one building at the complex.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
