DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) - When Diboll firefighters responded to a car fire near the Ryan Lake Hunting Club just outside of Diboll Friday, they found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. However, the more disturbing find came after the blaze was extinguished.
Emergency personnel found a burned body inside the car. Trooper David Flowers of the Texas Department of Public Safety said the man has been identified as Dion Lamont Lackland, 39. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of Lackland's death.
Flowers said the 911 dispatcher got a call about a reckless driver traveling through Diboll at approximately 11:20 a.m. Friday. A short time later, the 911 dispatcher got a call about a car fire near the Ryan Lake Hunting Club.
Flowers said the car, a green 1994 Buick LeSabre, had been going north on Ryan Lake Road. Based on the evidence at the scene, the car swerved left at the gate to the hunting club and smashed into a nearby tree, he said. Flowers added that it looked like the driver of the car never hit his brakes.
Diboll VFD firefighters, Angelina County Sheriff's Deputies, and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the car fire around 11 a.m. or noon Friday. The burned car was near an electrical sub station off Pine Valley Road.
