Freedom Fighters: Bonham Burleson

Posted: Updated:

Bonham Burleson was 16 years old when he joined the Merchant Marines in 1944.  Two years later he joined the Army and served a stint in the 82nd Airborne before going to Korea as an M.P. in 1950.

Burleson has never forgotten  the sights of tens of thousands of Chinese soldiers coming across the hill "like red ants", or the dead American soldiers with their hands tied behind their backs. He said the North Koreans and Chinese tended to not take prisoners.

And yet, Burleson says in spite of the danger and horrific sights he witnessed, he "would do it all over again" because "people who want to be free, deserve to be free".
