Nacogdoches 5K runs gain in popularity

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

A group of dedicated runners kicked off their day with a 5-k run in Nacogdoches. It's just one of a growing number of group runs through the oldest town in Texas.

This event was organized and sponsored by Pineywoods Athletic Club. The club coaches people for long distance running which is popular in other places too.

"Oh yeah, there's communities across Texas. They have one or two races every single weekend, so Nacogdoches is catching up. For the size community we have, it's a lot of races," said club founder Robert Smith.

Running enthusiasts are working towards more 5k and even 10k runs in Nacogdoches. Another goal is to host a triathlon.
