Houston County officials implement a burn ban

Posted: Updated:

We have not seen as much rain as Houston County officials would like to see.

The county is stepping up efforts to prevent any major fires. Earlier today, Houston County Judge Erin Ford signed into effect a burn ban for the whole county.

Anyone caught burning could face between a $150-200 fine.

Remember the Bearing Fire in 2011 Ford is hoping that by doing this they can prevent a repeat.

"I met with our emergency management operator David Lamb, and he and I thought this was a good way to prevent other instances that might occur because of the drought."

Area officials will be placing out signs around the county to remind people of the burn ban.

Right now, there is no time frame on when they will be lifting it.
