TRINITY, TX (KTRE) -

Trinity Police Chief Steven Jones says a consent to search wasn't even necessary after catching a man driving with two pounds of marijuana in a grocery bag on his floorboard Tuesday night.

Jones said he was patrolling State Highway 19, north of the city limits, around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday when he followed a Cadillac, driven by Craig Allen, 40, of Trinity, back into town. Jones said Allen was swerving in the road and violated a couple traffic violations.

Jones pulled the Cadillac over and recognized Allen as someone who was known to be involved in drugs.

Allen gave Jones permission to search his vehicle, but Jones said it was not necessary, as two pounds of marijuana were in plain view in a plastic grocery bag on the passenger side floorboard.

Jones arrested Allen for felony possession of marijuana.
