Police: Man seriously injured in Lufkin wreck had pot in car

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin Police Department report on the one-vehicle accident that occurred in the 1400 block of Southwood Drive late Tuesday night indicated that the officers who searched the vehicle found approximately 120 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, and plastic sandwich bags.

According to Detective J.B. Smith, a spokesman for the Lufkin Police Department, the accident occurred on the 1400 block of Southwood Drive at approximately 11:01 p.m. Tuesday. One man was seriously injured in the accident.

The driver of a black 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was headed northbound when the vehicle's brakes possibly locked, causing him to skid off the road and hit a pine tree in the front yard of a resident's home, said LPD Sgt. Mike Shurley.

Smith said that the man found in the driver's seat of the Monte Carlo was so seriously injured that he did not respond to the officers' questions. Lufkin Fire Department personnel transported the man to a local hospital, and the officers searched the vehicle because they were looking for anything that might identify the driver.
