LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Dozens of kids spend some quality time with the animals and staff at Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter.
Director of youth ministries at First United Methodist of Lufkin, Dave Gray, says his junior high and high school kids come every Thursday and help out with anything the shelter needs.
The kids play with kittens, walk dogs, help organize supplies and today they were helping clean out a storage room.
"We thought that the dog shelter was one of the best ways so much we volunteer in construction projects and food instruction but we also need to look at other ways to be involved and by helping at the animal shelter is one of the best ways we could do it," said Gray.
Gray says the kids love coming out and giving the animals attention and the shelter gets a bunch of extra, much-needed help.
