LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - While the June unemployment rates for Angelina and Nacogdoches counties stayed the same or were better than they were in June 2012, they still increased, compared to the May numbers.
Angelina County's jobless rate was 7 percent, compared to the 6.5 percent reported in May. Nacogdoches County's unemployment took an even bigger jump, going from 6.6 percent in May to 7.4 percent in June. Statewide, the jobless rate went from 6.5 percent in May to 6.9 percent in June.
In Angelina County, even though the number of employed people stayed basically the same, about 37,400, the labor force grew from 39,963 in May to 40,284 in June. In June 2012, Angelina County posted a jobless rate of 7.5 percent.
Nacogdoches County had an available workforce of 30,589. Of that number, 28,312 were employed in the month of June. For the same period in 2012, the county had a 7.4 employment rate.
The City of Lufkin's jobless rate went from 6.6 percent in May to 7.0 percent in June. For the month of June in 2012, the city had an unemployment rate of 7.4 percent.
At the city level, Nacogdoches' unemployment increased considerably, going from 6.9 percent in May to 8.0 percent in June. That number mirrored the jobless rate for the same reporting period in 2012.

Houston County: 9.5 percent (8.7 percent)
Jasper County: 10.3 percent (9.9 percent)
Newton County: 11.7 percent (11.2 percent)
Polk County: 8.4 percent (7.8 percent)
Sabine County: 15.5 percent (15.4 percent)
San Augustine County: 10.8 percent (10.0 percent)
San Jacinto County: 8.2 percent (7.6 percent)
Shelby County 7.2 percent (6.6 percent)
Trinity County: 8.0 percent (7.3 percent)
Tyler County: 10.7 percent (9.9 percent)
