Dead baby found in trunk of car at auto repair shop

SHELBY, OH (WOIO) -

A Shelby, OH mechanic made a gruesome discovery Tuesday afternoon.

The Broadway Auto & Exhaust employee found a baby's body in the trunk of a car at his shop.

Shelby Police Chief Roub tells 19 Action News that the mechanic noticed a strong odor coming from the trunk so he opened it, thinking it was a dead animal. That's when he realized the smell was a dead baby and not an animal. The baby was inside a box in the trunk.

The shop is located at 211 N. Gamble Street.

So far no one has been arrested. Police are investigating.

An autopsy is being performed by the Richland County Coroner's office.
