A driver who was hospitalized after a car crash that sparked a power outage is now under arrest. 24-year-old Jimmy Ray Gibson is charged with theft and fraud charges. After Gibson crashed his SUV into a house on Pine Tree road last night, he apparently had something to hide.

"When we arrived on scene, there were two people involved in the accident the truck struck the utility pole and struck the home," says Longview police officer Kristie Brian.

Police say Gibson lost control of his SUV, went off the road, hit an electrical pole, and then hit the house. The pole then crashed on top of a passing truck.

"I heard this and it was a loud explosion. They say he was going awfully fast. Man, we couldn't believe it. It was the biggest mess I have ever seen," says neighbor Billy Russell.

No one was injured, but power was knocked out to homes for hours. Then the story took another turn.

Almost immediately witnesses began noticing something odd about Gibson. Witnesses say he was trying to hide some items in the nearby bushes of the home, and police were very interested in those items.

"We actually learned the suspect had hidden some drivers licenses in some bushes close by," Brian says.

Earlier that day , police were called to Hidden Hills apartments where cars had been burglarized. Investigators say those missing items were in Gibson's possession.

"Witnesses saw what was happening and were able to tell police," Brian says.

Police say witnesses even stopped Gibson when he tried to leave the scene. Residents were without power until morning.

After a brief check at the hospital, Gibson was arrested for theft, charged with theft and fraudulent possession of identifying documents. A second person who was in the car with Gibson was not arrested. Gibson's bond has been set at $3,000.
