Jacksonville doughnut store burglar still at large

JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) -

Jacksonville police are on the hunt for a suspected doughnut shop burglar.

Police say the Donut Palace on South Jackson Street was broken into on Sunday morning.

"A black male made forcible entry into the building, made his way inside, and obtained an undisclosed amount of money from inside the business and promptly left. He was only in the business for just a short period of time," said Det.Greg Compton with Jacksonville Police.

In surveillance video, the suspect grabs the cash register off the counter and steals all the cash.

He continued to search through shelves, taking all he could.

While the suspect is still at large, tips from the community have been coming in.

"We do not have a name on the suspect right now. We are getting some tips from the public and we're investigating those as they came in and other means of obtaining some information as well," said Compton. "It appears to be a black male, with possible balding and maybe a very short beard."

Any tips that come in about the suspect won't be taken for granted.

"Cherokee County Crime stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest or conviction of this individual or individuals involved," said Compton.

If you recognize the man, or have any information about the burglary, you're encouraged to call Jacksonville Police or Cherokee County Crimestoppers.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
