Surveillance video unveils new details in Jacksonville Police investigation

Posted: Updated:

The Jacksonville Police Department says they missed something the first time they watched surveillance video of the Donut Palace robbery in Jacksonville this past weekend.

When watching the surveillance video for our newscast, we noticed that there appears to be a person walking out front of the building during the early morning robbery, and reported it to Jacksonville police.

"I believe he had accomplice with him, at least one for sure, maybe two. In the video you can see outside the window shadows of a person walking by there," said Frank Herrera, the owner of Donut Palace.

As of Friday, Jacksonville Police are taking a further look into the unknown figure walking outside the shop.

Herrera explains the scene he found.

"When I first pulled up, I noticed the window of the front door. So I pulled over to the side of the building and came out to see what was going on. I noticed the cash register on the floor and a bunch of change all over the place there," said Herrera

In the video you can see the man pull the register off the counter and clean out the cash.

The suspect looks through the shelves and manages to find a special tip jar.

"We had a tip jar that we save our tips for Joyce Meyer Ministries and we give that money to the kids in Cambodia and that was taken," said Herrera.

A few days after the robbery, Herrera found another tip Jacksonville Police are looking into.

"I noticed that this part of the window was raised up and we haven't touched it. We never touch the window so that leads me to believe that somebody was maybe trying to get in the back as well," said Herrera.

Jacksonville Police say tips from the community have helped.

"We're looking for the help of the public to try and apprehend this person or persons," said Herrera.

If you recognize the man or have any information on the robbery, you're asked to call Jacksonville Police or Cherokee Crimestoppers.
