Fighting for Aliza. A self defense lessons class is now being offered to help other women learn how to protect themselves -- Aliza Sherman never got that chance.

"I wish she would have had this knowledge," say Jan Lash.

Jan Lash was Aliza's best friend. The nurse and mother murdered by a suspect who is still out there. In March someone stabbed Aliza on a Sunday afternoon after she left her attorney's office for a divorce case.

Police have grainy security video of a person leaving the scene.

"Women need to feel safe. Aliza wanted her friends and her kids to feel safe, and we feel by having a self defense class it will empower people," added Lash.

Now Lash and others are doing what they can to help women feel safe by offering a free self defense class with the help of the Partners to Empowerment Wellness Center and Master Gary Yano.

"The story has more than touched my heart and we live and work in this community and as a woman how can you not want to do anything you can," says Carol Kwait of the Partners to Empowerment Wellness Center.

"She got stabbed eleven times. I mean that's overkill. It's just nuts. So if you can have a way and be empowered in being able to defend yourself on the street that's a good thing," says Master Gary Yano.

Yano will teach the free class this Sunday July 28th at noon at the Partners to Empowerment Wellness Center in Beachwood at 3681 S. Green Road, Suite 406.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
