Teen shot in Wickenburg pulled from life support

WICKENBURG, AZ (CBS5) -

A community is mourning the loss of Brady Baker, 13, of Wickenburg. The teenager was pulled from life support at Phoenix Children's Hospital Sunday morning after a final brain scan showed no activity, according to his father, Robert.

Brady was shot in the head Friday evening while he was at a friend's house. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says Brady's 13-year-old friend was given a handgun by his father while he left the home. That family says they had been receiving threats and bought the gun as a precaution.

Detectives are investigating this shooting and are looking into possible charges against members of that family.

Baker's father believes the shooting was accidental. He allowed his daughter, Baileigh, 14, to speak on his behalf.

"They're best friends," Baileigh Baker said. "I solely believe it was an accident."

Brady had just celebrated his thirteenth birthday on July 22nd. His sister expressed gratitude for the support her family has received from the Wickenburg community.

"He's the youngest, he's an only son," she said. "We're going through a tough time."

Several fundraisers are set-up for the Baker family. Friends have organized car wash fundraisers at Jones Ford on Wednesday and Friday where T-shirts will be for sale with all proceeds going to Brady's family for funeral costs.

Brady was about to go into the 8th Grade at Vulture Peak Middle School. The school issued this statement Sunday night on its Facebook page:

"The Vulture Peak staff is deeply saddened by the tragedy that occurred this weekend involving a student from Vulture Peak who was accidentally shot. We will be providing counseling services beginning Monday morning at 9 a.m. in the Vulture Peak Library. Please share this information with anyone you know who may need support during this difficult time."

Brady lived with two older sisters and his father.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
