ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

WALB has learned Darton State head softball coach David Dews will be leaving the program soon to take another position.

Assistant coach Larry Willis will become the interim head coach after Dews leaves, and will remain in that position through the hiring process.

Darton State Athletic Director Mike Keifer would not specify where Dews was going and when his final day is, saying he wouldn't comment on personal matters.

Several calls and messages have been left with Dews, but he has not yet responded.

Dews spent six seasons as the Lady Cavaliers head coach, winning four regular season championships and two state titles.

He took Darton State to two World Series, finishing 5th in 2009 and 6th in 2011.

We will have more on this story tonight on WALB News 10.
