LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - It is all about grease and gears this week during the Angelina County small engines 4H camp.
Kids from ages 9 to 18 are learning how to take a part and put a lawn mower motor back together, as well as learn how all the parts work together to make the mower work.
4H leaders say it's an important skill set for youth to have in their tool box.
Program coordinator Ryan Merrel says 4H is more than about raising animals.
"What we try to do with all of our 4h projects is try to teach things that also basic life skills," said Merrel. "How do we use tools. For all of us that do have lawn equipment how do we take care of it. How are we responsible for the things that we have and as you can see everybody has their safety gear on so we're learning to do these things safely.
4H provides youth with opportunities to gain hands on experience and opportunities to build life skills.
