Bullard High School Solar Team places third in race

Posted: Updated:

The Bullard High School Solar Team placed third in a week-long race that took them from Ft. Worth all the way to Los Angeles.

The Bullard High School engineering class started working on the vehicle back in October, and it was the product of countless hours of planning and engineering, work that began at the beginning of the school year.

The Bullard team was actually the first team to cross the final finish line in Los Angeles, but the race results are based on the overall time taken during the week.

The team released the following statement on their Facebook page:

"Last night we received our 3rd place trophy. It felt pretty awesome because we were the first, first year team to ever place or even compete in the race! We were the ONLY team that didn't have electrical and/or mechanical problems!!

The road race is a lot harder than the track race because it's more about strategy than the car. We were kinda discouraged how first year teams got treated but we sure did give every one a wake up call. We were on the side of the road so much with problems we couldn't help. If we weren't on the side of the road fixing trucks and etc we know we could have done a lot better. (6 hours on the side of the road would be over 130 more miles driven)

But now we know how to race on the road and we can help out the next generations when it is time for them to race! Thank you so much for all of the support for the last year and please continue to support the Bullard Solar Car Team!"
