Police are now looking at possible suspects in a shooting that left a 20-year-old mother dead.

20-year-old Briana Raquel Young was shot and killed last night at P.T. Cole Park. The park is located between Mockingbird and Lindsey Lane in Tyler.

Right now, police suspect that the shooting was gang-related.

The shots that killed Briana Young resonated through neighborhoods surrounding P. T. Cole Park.

"It sounded like a semi-automatic, like as fast as you can pull a trigger, slight pause and then another round of gun fire," said Nathan Sewell, who lives next to P. T. Cole and heard the gunshots.

Residents just feet away from the park say it sounded like the shots were coming from inside their home.

"We heard the first set of gunshots and he and I just kind of looked at each other and we just went onto the floor immediately and then he was like, 'keep your head down, Jane, stay down,'" said Jane Newell, Nathan's wife.

Young was at the park with her 3-year-old son, who was not injured, in what officers are calling a gang-related crime.

"We believe at this time she's an innocent bystander that got shot in the park. She really didn't have anything to do with the subjects that were shooting at each other," said Don Martin, the Public Information Officer with Tyler Police.

Opal Roberson witnessed the shooting on her way to the store.

"The young man jumped out of the car and opened up fire, "pow pow pow pow," jumped back in his car, went up Mockingbird, turned around and came back down Mockingbird from what my neighbor said, and opened up fire again," said Roberson, a resident near P.T. Cole Park.

Neighbors hope their park can be gang-free once again.

"That color is not going to be able to do no time for you. That color is not going to stop your momma from hurting. That color is not gonna to bring that child back and stop that family from grieving. That red and that blue is not going to do that," said Roberson.

This is not the first loss for the Young family.

Briana's brother, William Thomas Young, a graduate of Robert E. Lee  High School, was shot to death in 1999 at age 18. His body was found in a wooded area that is now Woodland Estates, near Flint. Young's body was found by a man walking his dog.

In October 2012, nearly 13 years later, Shams Masters was convicted of William's murder. He was sentenced to life in prison.

"I think of my son everyday. Every morning when I get up I thank the lord for the day and I say, 'Good morning, Lock.' That's every day," said William's mother, Rosalind Young, in October.

If you have any information about the suspects involved Briana's death,  you are urged to contact the Tyler Police Department, at 903-531-1000, or Crime Stoppers at 903-597-CUFF (903-597-2833).  Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and charges filed against the suspects in ts case or any felony case.
