LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police officers arrested a 24-year-old Nacogdoches woman for child endangerment Tuesday after she allegedly stole from a local store, fled from its management, and carried/dragged two small children across Atkinson Drive in front of an 18-wheeler.
Ebony Denise Colston was booked into the Angelina County Jail on a felony charge of child abandonment and a misdemeanor charge of theft under $50 with a previous theft conviction. She posted a collective bail of $6,500 and was released from jail the next day.
The East Texas News obtained a copy of the arrest affidavit Friday morning. According to the affidavit, Colston had "custody, care, or control" of two girls, ages 7 and 2, and a baby boy, age 6 months, when the incident occurred at approximately 6: 20 p.m. Tuesday.
According to the affidavit, Colston was fleeing a store's management after she allegedly stole some merchandise from the business. She carried the 6-month-old baby and dragged the 2-year-old girl as she ran across Atkinson Drive in front of an 18-wheeler. The 7-year-old crossed the road with them.
"Colston further abandoned [the 7-year-old] by having her run home while she hid from police in some bushes with the baby and [the 2-year-old]," the affidavit stated.
Colston was found in the 500 block of Hemlock Street.
