LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Lufkin Chamber of Commerce showcased it's 21 new chamber members Friday during the First Friday Luncheon.
Todd Staples, the Texas Agricultural Commissioner, made a special appearance at the event and spoke freely about how the community can focus on job creation and expand our economy.
He says one of the best ways to attract jobs is plentiful water, which Angelina County has lots of.
"Obviously having a skilled work force is part of that and talking with our education community about how we both have quality schools and accountable schools, that's what we want. That's what taxpayers want and that's what we need to be focused on in Texas," Staples said.
Staples also mentioned that he is running for Lieutenant Governor and will make his official announcement in a couple of months.
"This race is really not about the next election. It's about the next generation and I want us to continue to grow as a state and I want to keep our taxes low and keep government limited and I want to create a government where our environment sector can create jobs for our citizens," Staples said.
