TUCSON, AZ (CBS5) -

A man who shot a Pima County sheriff's deputy in the leg during a struggle was killed when the deputy drew his service revolver and opened fire.

Alvin McBride, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputy Jesus Davila, of the Pima County Sheriff's Department Foothill District, was the first to arrive Saturday night at the Circle K at 4395 N. Romero Road. He and other deputies were dispatched after store employees reported a suspicious person.

Davila spoke to McBride and a struggle ensued. McBride produced a firearm and shot Davila in the leg, sheriff's investigators said.

Davila and McBride went down on the floor where the struggle continued. Davila drew his weapon and fatally shot the man, Pima sheriff's authorities said.

Deputy Davila was taken to an area hospital and is expected to be OK.

Davila has been a member of the Sheriff's Department since October 2007.
