LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Lufkin Police officer arrested a 34-year-old man Saturday for driving drunk with two children under the age of 15 in the car after he attempted to post bail for his girlfriend at the Angelina County Jail.

Dorvise Caridale Rigsby was charged with driving drunk with a child under the age of 15 in the car, which is a felony. He was booked in the Angelina County Jail on Saturday and released later that day after he posted a $5,500 bail.

According to Detective J.B. Smith, a spokesman for the Lufkin Police Department, the LPD was notified that Rigsby appeared to be intoxicated when he drove away from the jail in a gray Dodge Challenger at approximately 8:50 p.m. The witnesses said they encountered Rigsby when he tried to post bail for his girlfriend.

The LPD officer spotted the vehicle as it pulled into a parking lot in the 400 block of North Timberland Drive. In the process, it turned in front of a vehicle traveling south on Timberland Drive.

When the LPD officer made contact with Rigsby, he detected the odor of alcohol on the driver of the Challenger. Rigsby allegedly admitted to drinking two alcoholic beverages earlier that evening and failed field sobriety tests. He was arrested at the scene and taken to the Angelina County Jail.

The children, ages 3 and 5, were released into the custody of a family friend at the direction of their mother.
