AUSTIN, TX (News Release) -

Nacogdoches Independent School District teacher Katherine Whitbeck was honored July 18 with an Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE) Campus Representative of the Year Award. Whitbeck, an education veteran, was presented with the award during the 2013 ATPE Summit Membership Awards Luncheon held at the Austin Convention Center.

Whitbeck won the Campus Representative of the Year Award for local units with one to 500 members. She won $500 for herself and $250 for her local unit, Nacogdoches ATPE. The local unit can use the funds for future membership activities.

The Campus Representative of the Year Award acknowledges ATPE volunteers who are fundamental to the association's growth and development. Nearly 1,000 people celebrated the achievements of public school educators at the luncheon, at which numerous awards were presented to educators who demonstrate exceptional leadership skills.

The Association of Texas Professional Educators is the preeminent educators' association in Texas and the largest nonunion educators' group nationwide. Its membership consists of classroom teachers, para-educators, administrators, college students and retired educators.
