Crown Colony turns old building into state-of-the-art fitness center

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin has added a new amenity to its growing community: a fitness center.

The facility, which was rebuilt from an older building already on the property, is the brain child of head golf professional Ben Burns and general manager Lin Lentz.

The plan for the fitness facility was drafted up roughly five years ago and they were originally going to redo one of the racquetball rooms, but decided to expand. Lentz says their equipment is from the Cybex Corporation that provides equipment for the television show the Biggest Loser.

"There's a little something for everyone. There are treadmills, recumbent bikes, stationary bikes, a couple elliptical machines and then there are stations for things like backs and legs. There are also dumbbells with benches so there's a little bit for everybody," Lentz said.

The facility also has a room for members to enjoy fitness classes like yoga and Pilates. Lentz says the entire project cost around $50,000. It is open 7 days a week unlike the club, which is only open 6 days a week. It's open from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. except for Sunday and Monday when it closes at 8 p.m.
