LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police officers arrested a man and a woman for felony theft Tuesday afternoon after they allegedly took a large utility box from the outside of a business located at 2902 E. Denman Ave., along with other items like extension cords and assorted metal items.
Robert James Clayton 34, and Tarra L Glover, 20, both of Lufkin, were both charged with theft between $1,500 and $20,000, which is a state-jail felony. Glover was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
Detective J.B. Smith, a spokesman for the Lufkin Police Department, said that a witness reported seeing an older model Chevrolet pickup leaving at business at 2902 E. Denman Ave. at approximately 12:35 p.m. Tuesday. The truck had a "Control Console Command rack" in its bed.
Working from that information, Lufkin Police officers told area metal recycling businesses to be on the lookout for the suspects and/or the Chevy pickup described by the witness. Later that day, BKL Metal mart on U.S. Highway 59 North informed LPD that the suspects had dropped off the stole console box, metal, and extension cords.
Clayton and Glover were arrested after a Lufkin Police officer spotted them arriving at the North Raguet Scrap Shop with another load of metal.
According to the police report, the stolen utility box has an estimated value of $4,000. The extension cords and assorted metal the two suspects allegedly took from inside the business have an estimated value of $50.
