LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin newspaper is reporting that a man accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend and her daughter has confessed to the crime.
The Lufkin News' Thursday edition's lead story features a jailhouse interview with Kevin McKelvey, 37, who was arrested Monday night for in the deaths of Teresa McCoy, 39, and her daughter, Shaunika Hoyle, 22.
In the article, writer Jessica Cooley states McKelvey admitted to shooting both women.
Sheriff Greg Sanches would not confirm whether or not McKelvey confessed to the murders to his investigators.
"The best way to put it is he turned himself in and has been very cooperative with our investigators," Sanches said.
McKelvey turned down an interview with KTRE on Tuesday while he was in court, telling a reporter to "get the camera out of my face."
The article states McKelvey did not mean to kill the daughter but did not have remorse for the mother's death.
McKelvey faces the death penalty with capital murder charge.
