Lufkin restaurateur bottles and sells salad dressing dream

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Lufkin restaurateur's bottled up his dream and now it can be found on local Brookshire Brother's shelves.

Manhattan's restaurant owner, Destin Sabani says, "It's so good. So tasty."

Bottling his own salad dressing has been Sabani's dream for as long as he can remember.

"I've been working for so many years on these salad dressings and these are very unique.   It's my own creation. My own recipes and I decided to bottle."

While Sabani's customers at his downtown Lufkin restaurant, Manhattan's, have been enjoying his famous salad dressings for years, a new partnership with Brookshire Brothers makes it possible for all of Deep East Texas to taste it too.

"The product arrived in 7 of our stores on Monday and we're putting it in Nacogdoches and Angelina counties because those are the folks who really know about Manhattan's restaurant," said Brookshire Brothers spokeswoman, Sally Alvis.

And it's not easy to get shelf space in the grocery business.

"Private labeling is difficult," said Alvis. "It's difficult because space on shelves, in the racks, in the coolers is limited so there is constant competition vying for space."

But these two Lufkin-based, home-grown businesses working together is a win-win.

"It's really a neat partnership for a local grocer to be able to support a local food connoisseur who has actually created something that's actually going to be able to hit the market," said Alvis.

"This is interesting that it's happening in East Texas," said Sabani. "It's made in Lufkin and it represents Lufkin and East Texas."

All four dressings are tomato based: tomato vinaigrette Italian dressing, tomato ranch, tomato blue cheese and chipotle tomato ranch.

The dressing can be found at all 7 Brookshire Brother's in Lufkin and Nacogdoches counties. It sells for $3.99 and in most stores, can be found in the produce section.
