Family friend of murdered Lufkin woman, daughter seeking help with funeral costs

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin man is trying to raise money to help with the funeral costs for Teresa McCoy, 39, and her daughter, Shaunika Hoyle, 22. McCoy and Hoyle were allegedly shot to death by McCoy's ex-boyfriend late Sunday night.

McCoy's ex-boyfriend, Kevin Jabbar McKelvey made his first court appearance Tuesday morning. McKelvey, who has been charged with capital murder, appeared in front of Judge Paul White to request a court-appointed attorney.

"Unfortunately, everyone doesn't have insurance," said Travosky Kiel, a family friend of McCoy and Hoyle. "When this happens, you actually have to go out and look for help. In this situation the family lost two, and it's kind of difficult to bury two people -they have to come up with so much money up front without insurance. This is the reason why the family is asking for help."

Kiel said Teresa McCoy and her Daughter Shaunika Hoyle did not have insurance.

Donations can be made under Teresa McCoy's mother's name, Friddie McCoy, at First Bank and Trust in Lufkin. McCoy's married name was Hoyle.

"I know that the community doesn't have any part in the cost of the funeral," Kiel said. "We're just asking if you could stop by the First Bank and Trust in East Texas and drop off donations. That would be very appreciated by the family," Kiel said.

Kiel says Shaunika worked for Morgan Oil Company, and they graciously donated $500 on Friday toward funeral cost.

Kiel said the funeral will be in Hemphill on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Family and friends are welcome to attend the services.

Kiel said the family is taking things day by day and is appreciating all of the prayers from everyone.
