LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Crime Stoppers of Lufkin is seeking the public's help in identifying two men involved in a "smash and grab" burglary of a convenience store located in the 100 block of Champions Drive that occurred on April 9.

According to the Lufkin Crime Stoppers Website, surveillance video shows that the two men pulled up to the convenience store in a black Dodge Charger. The two suspects appeared to be black men, but they were wearing long-sleeved clothing, gloves, and ski masks. Using a sledge hammer, the suspects used a sledge hammer to smash the glass in the store's front door.

Once the two men were inside the convenience store, they filled trash cans with cigarettes and put the trash cans in the trunk of the Charger. The Lufkin Crime Stoppers Website said the two men were in and out of the store in just a little more than three minutes.

"The short time they spent in the store and the equipment they brought along, such as the protective clothing, trashcans, and breaching tool, suggests that this was not the suspects' first convenience store burglary," the Lufkin Crime Stoppers Web site stated. "If that assumption is correct, someone reading this information or watching the video knows the suspects, knows about their crimes, and can lead law enforcement to them."

You never have to give your name, and Crime Stoppers may pay a cash reward of up to $1,000 if the information provided leads to the arrest of a felony offender.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
