Stephen f. Austin head football coach Clint Conque paid a visit to the Rose City this afternoon. It's perfect timing to pump up the program, considering the Jacks are coming off a dramatic last second win over Incarnate Word. Put on by the alumni association, Conque was the featured speaker at a Lumberjack networking event. Coach Conque got to brag a little about SFA's first victory of the year. Not to mention that despite a rough non-conference, the Jacks are 1-0 in South...More >>

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Leeann Eicher thought her trip to Walgreens would be uneventful as usual, but that was before an older woman sitting by the pharmacy caught her eye.

"She was confused, she was scared, and she needed help," Leeann Eicher said.

Electra Spang's electric wheelchair was dead. The battery had been failing for months and it had gotten to the point where the battery would no longer take a charge.

Leeann Eicher immediately called her husband, Joe Eicher. They managed to get Spang's chair in the back of his SUV, and they gave Spang a ride home.

"I was like, 'thank God.' I can't tell you how it feels ... cause it's so hot out," Spang said.

That dead would have been good enough, but in the weeks that followed, Leeann and Joe couldn't get Spang out of their minds. They also knew that her wheelchair needed a $300 fix, an amount Spang couldn't muster, so they nominated her to receive $500 from CBS 5 News' Pay It Forward program.

The Eichers later learned that because Spang's chair was broken, she hadn't eaten in three days.

Leeann and Joe took her straight to the Village Inn, her favorite place to eat. All of the servers told them they were worried about Spang because they hadn't seen her in weeks. They gave her a $20 gift card and the Eichers are trying to get her signed up for Meals on Wheels so she won't go hungry again.

"I think it's just a wonderful thing that you're doing. I don't know what to say, but it is great, wonderful and you will be blessed. You will be blessed because it's something that God wants. He wants us to help each other," Spang said.
