NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The United Way of Nacogdoches had their official kickoff for the 2013 campaign on Thursday. It was the first time the group has kicked off their campaign with a banquet style get together to celebrate the group's contribution to the community.
The banquet was catered to showcase United Way's partner agencies and show patrons how each agency donates its services to the city.
There was food, fun and a comedy show by Todd Womack.
"We want the community members to know that campaigns are about grassroots. They're about employee driven crusades. It's a chance for the employees to give back to the communities," Chris Wigington, the campaign co-chair, said.
Rex Perry Motors also donated a 2014 Hyundai Accent. Participants in the campaign were asked to donate to get the opportunity to win the car.
Plus, the toast to Nacogdoches honored the NCUW volunteer of the year.
