LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin police have identified the owner of the pickup found burning with a dead body inside Wednesday morning. However, police are still working to identify the dead body.

Police spokesman JB Smith said the owner of the Ford F150 is Efren Mora Elizondo, 47, of Lufkin. He said police have not been able to contact Elizondo and his family says they also have not been able to contact him since the pickup was found burning.

Smith explained that they cannot assume it was Elizondo's body.

"He could be involved in the case and hiding or anything like that," Smith said. "We can't exclude the possibility that it was someone else's body."

Smith said he hopes DNA testing, which takes several weeks to get the results, will identify whose body was found in the pickup.

Criminal records searches show Elizondo has no convictions in the United States nor arrests in the Angelina County Jail.
