LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A giraffe who has been living at Ellen Trout Zoo for the past 14 years died from a cardiac arrest Tuesday.

Emi Lane was 16.

According to zoo director Gordon Henley, Emi Lane had fallen in her stall on Monday afternoon and could not stand, despite zoo staffers trying to help her.

She died early Tuesday.

Henley said a necropsy showed she died of acute cardiac arrest.

Emi Lane was one of the first of two giraffes to arrive at the zoo. She came on June 6, 1999, and gave birth to six calves during that tenure.
