Lufkin Police searching for air conditioning unit stolen from church

Posted: Updated:
LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

The Lufkin Police Department is searching for the suspect or suspects who allegedly stole an air conditioning unit from a church.

Around 12 p.m. on Saturday, LPD officers were dispatched to the Christian Science Church in the 600 block of North Warren Street after a groundskeeper found pieces of the unit in the grass.

Corporal Ray Berry says the groundskeeper had showed up to the church to mow the lawn when he noticed pieces of it lying in front of the side door, which leads to the air conditioning and water system.

Berry believes the unit was cut from the system. He doesn't know the exact time or date that the unit was stolen but believes it happened as early as Wednesday afternoon.

Neighbor Abel Olvera says he didn't see anyone outside of the church, but was asked by the owner of the building to check the locks on the side door. He said around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday he discovered the door was unlocked. But he doesn't believe anything else was stolen.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact LPD at (936) 633-0356.
