Suspicious fire guts Nacogdoches mobile home, couple loses everything

Posted: Updated:

Authorities in Nacogdoches are investigating the cause of a suspicious fire that destroyed mobile home Tuesday afternoon.

David and Linda Yates rented the mobile home at South Meadows Mobile Home Village on Warr Street.

They lost everything. They escaped injuries by running out the back door with their dog.

They suspect a neighbor started the fire by throwing something flammable on the front porch.

"They had come by and asked if I wanted to buy some drugs, and I told him no and then whenever he left, I went into the tub and that's when it all went up," David Yates said. "My wife, well she was fixing to get up and make a pot of tea and whenever she got she heard popping. She opened the door. Whenever she opened the door our front porch was already gone."

Witnesses say the neighbor was cuffed and placed in a police car.

Fire officer Robert Ford said the man was causing a disturbance, but no one has been arrested at this time.

Ford said the cause of the fire is undetermined and it remains under investigation.
