NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 62-year-old man  for allegedly hitting a woman with a flashlight and trying to use it to sexually assault her on Aug. 17.

When the deputies went to serve the arrest warrant on Herbert Butch Puckett at his residence in the 300 block of Cedar View, they also found him to be in possession of prohibited weapon.

Puckett is still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated assault of a family member and a third-degree felony charge of possession of a prohibited weapon. Collectively, his bail has been set at $65,000.

During the alleged assault, Puckett used a flashlight to strike the woman on the head, face, and back, according to the affidavit. He then tried to sexually assault her with the flashlight, "causing extreme pain."

At that point, Puckett allegedly pulled out a rifle, placed the barrel to her temple, and threatened to kill her.

When the deputies served the arrest warrant on Puckett Tuesday, they found a .22-caliber rifle with a barrel less than 16 inches in his home. Because the rifle's barrel was approximately 12.5 inches, Puckett was also charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.
