Longview hosts 'Ink Life Tour' tattoo event

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

It was a colorful and bizarrely popular world on display this weekend in one East Texas city.   Tattoo art,  or body art, was on display at Longview's  Maude Cobb Activity Center in an event called the 'Ink Life Tour.' Tattoo art is a wildly popular attraction for all ages.

"I just like the meanings that it gives, I do them for reasons so like today I'm getting a heart with Proverbs in it," says tattoo enthusiast Tina Jones of Gladewater.

Over 200 tattoo artists piled into Maude Cobb Activity Center for a three day event celebrating body art and the artists were as colorful as their designs.

"If you get a tattoo, it isn't for the rest of the world. It's for you to share with the world.  I hope people get it to make themselves happy. You can not change your exterior without changing your interior," says tattoo artist Kyle Dunbar.

The skin is the canvas, and intricate designs can cost upwards of $1500 to $2000.

"Just the whole self expression of the artwork itself and tattoos now are just so much more detailed and so much more elaborate. There's a tattoo convention somewhere in some state every week. Its not going away anytime soon," says Ernie Bustamante of Oklahoma.

The convention continues Sunday at the Maude Cobb Activity Center until 9 p.m.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
