Nacogdoches ISD starts school year with tougher security

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

With the first day of school comes the enforcement of school zones.

Nacogdoches police were positioned into place at various school zones. There's little forgiveness when a motorist drives too fast around schools. And remember cellphone use is also prohibited.

There's another security measure inside NISD schools. Visitors will now notice additional glassed partitions at main entry ways.

"When we have parents come in they have sign-in procedures and they don't cross through the doors until we actually buzz them in and when they do get buzzed in a teacher is actually there to greet them so they're not just wandering the halls," said Brooks-Quinn Jones Principal Johnathan Kegler.

Brooks-Quinn Jones Elementary is the second-largest school in the district with the high school being the largest. More than 800 students are watched over by faculty and staff.
