NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches County Judge Joe English is expecting to submit a proposed tax rate in the coming weeks.
Instead of taking action on the current proposed five cent tax increase, the judge will study the numbers a bit longer.
"We're not out of it yet," English said. "Of course we've been dipping into the general fund for the last three years, over a million dollars, and it looks like we'll be doing that again this year. If we use the numbers we voted on today, we're still $1,160,000 we'll be dipping into the general fund."
English is wanting to place the proposed budget on the county website before the Sept. 24 public hearing. The vote for budget adoption will be the same day. The adopted budget has to filed with the county clerk by Sept. 27.
