SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A DPS trooper arrested a Bronson man who is accused of driving drunk with two young children following an altercation in Zavalla Sunday night.

DPS spokesman David Hendry said Sterling Wade Hampton, 25, was involved in an altercation in Zavalla and fled the scene. A trooper caught up to him on State Highway 147 in San Augustine County and reported that Hampton admitted to drinking. He then failed a field-sobriety test and a breath test, Hendry said.

Hampton was driving with two three-year-old boys in his Chevy pickup. Those boys were released to the custody of the mother and Hampton was arrested on a charge of state-jail felony DWI with a child.
