KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -

Police continue to investigate the death of a Kilgore woman who was found dead in a car early Tuesday morning.

According to Assistant Kilgore Police Chief Roman Roberson, the body of Amanda Woods, 30, was found by authorities in a vehicle on Farm to Market Road 349 near the intersection of FM 2276 on Tuesday. Police had responded to a reported vehicle crash, but found that no crash had occurred.

Initial investigation linked Willie Clarence Sims, 37, of Kilgore, to the crime. Upon execution of a search warrant at Sims' apartment in Kilgore, evidence indicated that Sims strangled Woods at the apartment and then attempted to cover up the crime by staging a vehicle crash.

"There was some physical evidence on miss woods throat that indicates she was strangled. We learned that the accident did not occur, that in fact mister Sims strangled Ms. Woods, killing her,And then attempted to move the body out at 349 and stage an accident," Roberson says.

Police say Sims gave his own account of what happened but it was proven to be untrue.

"Mr. Sims did speak with us and discuss that with us. I'm not sure he had a well-developed thought out , of how he was going to create this story after he killed Amanda Woods," says Roberson.

A motive is unclear at this time.

Sims is currently in jail in the Gregg County Jail and charged with tampering with physical evidence - human corpse, a felony with a $100,000 bond. The case will be sent to the Gregg County District Attorney's Office for review and consideration of criminal homicide charges.

"At that time that the charge was made to establish probable cause to charge him with criminal homicide," Roberson says.
