Lufkin City Council approves proposed tax rate and extends burn ban

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Tuesday during the regularly scheduled Lufkin City Council meeting, the council held a public hearing on the proposed tax rate for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

After no comments from the public or objections from the council, The city council voted unanimously to approve the current tax rate of 50.38 cents per $100 of taxable property value.

The city council also voted to approve extending the current city-wide burn ban for 60 days.

City manager, Paul Parker said state law allows for the mayor to issue a burn ban for 7 days, to be renewed every 7 days.

The mayor has the authority to evoke a longer burn ban with the approval of the council.
