Cleveland City Councilman Zack Reed was sentenced to 90 days in jail for drunk driving.

Reed has an option of 10 days in jail and home arrest. 70 days is deferred until after a hearing in 60 days. Reed will have "party plates" and an ignition interlock. He will also be placed on a two year probation. The judge also fined the councilman $1500.

He must report to jail on Sept. 25.

Reed was arrested on March 5 at the intersection of East 9th and Rockwell Avenue after he failed to stop at a red light and made an improper turn. He refused to take a breath test.

This was Reed's third OVI arrest.

Reed did address the court during his sentencing, and said that God brought everyone together in this situation and that he cannot ever have even one drink. He accepted full responsibility, and said he wants to be remembered for his work in council, and not for getting behind the wheel of a car and driving.

Councilman Reed's attorney said that Reed is in treatment at the Cleveland Clinic for his addiction to alcohol.

Councilman Reed has since made it clear that he has no plans on resigning and says he has important work to do in his ward, Ward 2. Reed is up for re-election this November.
