911 call from apartment complex prompts lockdown of 2 Kilgore schools

KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -

A Kilgore Independent School District elementary school and intermediate school were locked down for a brief period on Thursday afternoon after school officials became concerned about a possible threat.

According to Cara Cooke, Superintendent at Kilgore ISD, a 911 call was made from the Willows of Kilgore, located at 1901 Whipporwill Lane, at around 1:30 p.m.. Staff at the assisted living home had received a tip that an armed man, angry at a resident, was on his way to the complex.

Kilgore ISD school resource officers ordered Chandler Elementary School and Kilgore Intermediate school to be locked down immediately, due to the close proximity of those campuses to the apartment complex.

When officers arrived at the Willows, they found no threat. The angry individual did show up unarmed, but he left the complex without incident.

"Our teachers did a great job responding to the lockdown," said Cooke.

Cooke also highly praised the school resource officers for acting quickly and decisively to protect the students.

"All students are safe and at no time was there an immediate threat to anyone on our campuses," read a statement on the Kilgore ISD Facebook page.

No arrests were made in the incident.
