Several small, hard working local businesses were in the spotlight Friday. They were honored for their contribution to the community.

This year the Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber made some changes in the past only one business was recognized, but this year the businesses were divided and honored based on the size of the company.

East Texas Monuments was awarded the business of the year for 0-10 employees.

"We are surprised we were nominated," East Texas Monument owner Doug Russell said. "With the chamber here in Lufkin it is a great honor for anybody to get nominated for small business of the year."

Ray's Drive In won the award for the group of 11 to 50 employees.

"Ray's has been in business for so long and I can stop and reflect that the main thing that brought us to where we are today are the employees," said Lawana Ray, the owner of Ray's.

The winner of the largest category was GVCS Inc.

"It's an honor to receive this award," said Chris Johnson. "It's not just an award for myself, or my father, but it's an award for the whole organization."

This year was the 15th year of the event.
