LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Several small, hard workinglocal businesses were in the spotlight Friday. They were honored for theircontribution to the community.
This year the Lufkin/AngelinaCounty Chamber made some changes in the past only one business was recognized,but this year the businesses were divided and honored based on the size of thecompany.
East Texas Monuments was awarded the businessof the year for 0-10 employees.
"We are surprised we were nominated,"East Texas Monument owner Doug Russell said. "With the chamber here in Lufkinit is a great honor for anybody to get nominated for small business of theyear."
Ray's Drive In won the award for the group of11 to 50 employees.
"Ray's has been inbusiness for so long and I can stop and reflect that the main thing thatbrought us to where we are today are the employees," said Lawana Ray, theowner of Ray's.
The winner of the largest category was GVCS Inc.
"It's an honor toreceive this award," said Chris Johnson. "It's not just an award for myself, ormy father, but it's an award for the whole organization."
This year was the 15thyear of the event.
