Proud of East Texas: East Texas Arboretum

The East Texas Arboretum, located just outside of Athens, was an old trashed out truck farm when it was purchased in 1993. Thanks to vision and hard work, the 100 acre piece of land has bloomed into lush gardens, walking trails and historic structures.

While the one room schoolhouse is a favorite of visiting school children and the century and a half old Wofford House adds a view of Henderson County history, it is probably the Arboretum's newest project that creates the most historical interest.

The Henderson County Veteran's Memorial Wall, with names dating from the Civil War to the present, will be dedicated this Veteran's Day, November 11th.
